Sunny Guard - A Team Around Shedinja
« on: July 14, 2013, 02:41:04 am »
HAXMONS

Well, the title says it all, I was getting into Haxmons and thought of the fact that Shedinja beats most common strategies

Teambuilding

This was the Pokemon I wanted to base my team around

I realised that damaging weather would be awful for me, so I had to choose between Sun and Rain, as Sun blocks freezes, I chose sun, which means Ninetales

In this Metagame, you desperately need priority to check things like Lucario and other speed boosters, I chose Scizor as it hits incredibly hard with its Techinician always critting Bullet Punch, which has a chance I think at OHKO'ing Lucario and Jolteon

Lucario is just awesome in this tier, it has priority and a great ability in Inner Focus, this makes it an almost required member for many teams and every team must have a check for it. I chose it mostly for its ability as it is by far the best abuser and it can absorb some rock and dark type moves thrown at Sheddy and Ninetales

This is Escavelier, the single bulkiest Pokemon in the tier, why? It has Battle Armor, which basically halves damage. I chose it as I needed a defensive Pivot that could take a hit and I wanted to try this one once.

This would be the last Pokemon, it was a hard choice, but eventually I chose Starmie for its ability to take a flamethrower, spread status and outspeed a lot, but the final thing was spinning, not that hazards are common here, but if they are there, Shedinja is dead and that would be awful for the team.

Altho Escavelier is very bulky, a good fire type could defeat this team easily, so I needed a better resist as Ninetales and Starmie would fall quickly while Shedinja is eliminated for the match. I chose Omastar because it has a very good niche in this metagame, as well as resisting fire 4x of course

Details

@ Focus Sash
Trait: Wonder Guard
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 Def
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Sucker Punch
- Shadow Sneak
- X-Scissor

Although Shedinja is awful normally, it is awesome here. This is mainly because of the hyperoffensive nature of the tier. That is why hazards are virtually non-existing here. So the only thing where Shedinja needs to watch out for is Weather and SE moves, as also Status Moves are almost not used here, if you want to inflict status, use a move who can inflict it. Shedinja works so well in this tier as it blocks much strategies, as all flinching besides Dark Pulse and Bite (and Astonish, but that is too weak anyway) which are both easily defeated by Lucario. It also blocks annoying moves like Ice Beam, Thunderbolt, Scald and more.
I use this Pokemon mostly late-game when its checks are defeated and his opponent can barely hurt him, it can set up on a lot of Pokemon and priority is awesome in this tier, X-Scissor is just there to inflict incredible damage. Things that are troublesome though are Dark Pulsers, Escavalier and the Flamethrower's in the tier, there are also lesser problems, but most Pokemons that can hit it SE won't survive 2 hits to break its sash and KO it.
The moves that can hit him are Dark/Ghost/Fire/Flying/Rock, probably the most common of those is Dark as the Dark flinching moves are great and Crunch is used sometimes as coverage, the only other decent one is fire, which is too bad as Flamethrowers can burn it and stop it in one turn. I haven't faced any Flying type move and Rock Type moves neither outside Omastar as most are inaccurate, Ghost moves are there rarely, but some Pokemon use it.

Ninetales @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Drought
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 Atk
Hasty Nature
- SolarBeam
- Flamethrower
- Quick Attack
- Extrasensory

I use Ninetales for one reason: Drought and this was the best set I could find for it, as Haxmons is one big speed creep, I gave it a scarf to lure and outspeed some nasty threats. Physical attackers won't like getting burned, rock, ground and water types won't like a Solarbeam, Extrasensory always flinches and Quick Attack is for priority when needed. For Extrasensory to work I got to remove Dark Types of course, this can win the weather war easily, it forces Politoed to switch out, it can hit Tyranitar on the switch in with Flamethrower and well, I don't feel Abomasnow should be explained. The Sunny Day that it gives blocks Freezes and other weathers, which is always great.
I am thinking about Dark Pulse > Quick Attack as Quick Attack is incredibly weak and if I have Dark Pulse I can look at the flinching moves and decide which is better against the opponents team.
This Pokemon is used early game if no weather war to get sun up, otherwise around midgame when I feel it is the right moment to do so.

@ Focus Sash
Trait: Inner Focus
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 Atk
Hasty Nature
- Agility
- Vacuum Wave
- ExtremeSpeed
- Dark Pulse

This Pokemon has the potential to wreck the tier. It has STAB Priority of a Great typing, +2 Priority and a Flinching move. I use this Pokemon in conjunction with Shedinja, it is for the Pokemon Shedinja can't beat (besides fire type), but it can take Flinches all day with Inner Focus and because of its sash it always get 1 Agility up. I use Agility as Haxmons is one big speed creep, a + nature is used to outspeed +1 base 130's. The usual Strategy is to set up Agility, Dark Pulse whatever you can and hit anything with Priority with other Priority. The best thing is that if it must absorb flinching moves, it actually can, as it resists Headbutt, Dark Pulse, Bite, Astonish, Iron Head and more. Sun is also a great benefit to it, as Freeze would be one of the best ways to stop it.
This Pokemon is used at the end of midgame, to prepare for a sweep and sweep so Shedinja can take the last ones out.

@ Choice Band
Trait: Technician
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 HP / 4 SDef
Adamant Nature
- Bullet Punch
- U-turn
- Pursuit
- Superpower

This Pokemon is a powerhouse, it can check most Speed boosting moves (Except Lanturn, but luckily I'm the only one who uses it). Most of the time the only move that I use is Bullet Punch, just for its incredibly utility, but I kinda use Pursuit for opponent Shedinja and I use U-Turn against some Tyranitar. It also has defensive utility, as because of his decent bulk and great typing, it can even switch in on most attacks in Haxmons. Although in Normal OU it would have enough counters, even if it was at +2 (crit level) the fact that lots of defensive Pokemon aren't viable here make it a powerhouse, just watch out for Shell/Battle Armor Pokemon setting up on you. This Pokemon is used Mid Game to remove annoying Pokemon and Punch holes.

Rindo Berry
Trait: Shell Armor
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SDef / 252 Def
Bold Nature
- AncientPower
- Ice Beam
- Earth Power
- Surf

This is THE defensive booster of the tier, with enough bulk to set up on strong Pokemon, it can set up AncientPower and watch himself doing more and more damage while its opponent do less everytime, till it's unstoppable. You better be prepared for this. Besides its great boosting, it is also a good pivot, it resists some crucial typing for my team and neutral hits don't do too much here either as the metagame is more functioned around Speed than Power. It usually just spams it best move AncientPower as it has surprisingly good coverage, with the only main steel being able to defeat it is Lucario, but only with not much boosts.
I was thinking about Leftovers > Rindo Berry as it rarely gets hit by a Grass type move.
This Pokemon is used through the early/midgame as a Pivot and as sweeper as soon as possible.

@ Choice Scarf
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 SDef
Timid Nature
- Scald
- Ice Beam
- Thunderbolt
- Rapid Spin

The Final and a quite crucial member of my Team. First, it resists fire types and can spread status easily which helps tremendously against things like Scarf Jirachi and other Scarfers that expect to win from me. It has the great Status inflicting move set + Rapid Spin for the rare occasion where to opponent lays down hazards. This takes down a lot of sand teams with Scald as it even outspends Stoutland during sand.
Occasionally this is my lead, simply for the fact that it can defeat any non-ferrothorn (which is neverused here) lead, or at least badly cripple them. This Pokemon is used a much on Pivot for this team too, as sometimes, I just got to save things and hope this survives it, which it can do surprisingly decent.
This Member is used mostly early/midgame to punch holes and spread status and to be used as a pivot, which I really need during weather wars

Very good team (especially against other weather teams) but I think we should (honestly) make RMTs after all Tervari Pokemon are made into code. other than that, perfect team.

This team seems to have a really hard time against Banded Victini (Fusion Bolt hurts Omastar a lot) it hates Trick Room Victini even more. Although I have absolutely no experience, I suggest using a flash fire mon like Heatran over Omastar.

Sorry if what i'm saying is completely wrong, just trying to help out.

TBH, Trick Room is non existing in Haxmons, as no one got time to set it up besides good scenario Cofagrigus sometimes, but Trick Room fails against common strategies like Flinch and Freeze, also Banded things are very uncommon as they are likely KO'd before they can do anything, maybe Scarf would be a problem, but it will give Omastar a free turn if it uses V-Create, if it uses Bolt Strike, I can play around it easily by probably foddering one and setup an agility on Lucario or so, or switch in Shedinja, which it can't hurt anymore.

Edit: As damage is halfed at Omastar, Heatran and Omastar are both equally weak to Bolt Strike

The team looks good and quite hard to beat.
You might wanna try steadfast over inner focus for the speed boost which makes it possible for you to troll with dark pulse.
Looks pretty solid.

The Reason why I don't use Steadfast is that I can set up agility already when someone tries to flinch it and most flinchers are scarers, so I need more than one boost and I can start outright with Inner Focus, I have seen a Steadfast Lucario once, but it wasn't to my liking :D

Thnx for all of the awesome rates

I prefer Steadfast Luke + Inner Focus Dnite cause Luke doesn't have the defenses to survive two crits anyway. Also cause I like two Espeeders.

I hadn't thought of Rindo Berry on Omastar though....

This is the best creative sun team I ever saw. I like how you didn't spam charizard and venasauar. You used different pokes which I like and I can't wait to see how it does in a battle! ^-^

Looks like a great team and is very promising when it comes to Haxmons, though Im no expert on Haxmons at all. And not many moves can kill Shedinja (Flamethrower is underused, lack of Rock Moves, No one uses shadow ball, Shadow Claw, and Flying moves are horrible in this meta though Sucker Punch will murder it).
